In the Hands of a Child Continuing to Bring Laughter and Learning Together

By Katie Kubesh
Posted November, 2008

Now entering our seventh year in business, In the Hands of a Child is proud to announce that we are continuing to grow and blossom. Since 2006 we have doubled our product line and now offer over 300 Project Packs titles including topics for Bible, Economics, English, Geography, History, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

The homeschool market continues to impact our growth in a huge way. The concept of lapbooking has grown tremendously in recent years helping to increase homeschooler awareness of the benefits of lapbooking and of our products. We applaud those parents who are allowing their children to express themselves creatively, taking ownership of their education, and encouraging their children to learn and try new things by incorporating lapbooking into their curriculum. We strive to continue to offer a hands-on tool for parents and students so they can focus on their educational goals rather than the planning and process of creating a lapbook.

Like the growth of our business, our partnership with The Old Schoolhouse Magazine has also continued to blossom and grow. We first began advertising with The Old Schoolhouse Magazine in 2005 and have gained more exposure and customers through that venue than from any of our other advertising and promotion venues. We have been especially successful with the free gifts we have offered with the magazine subscription. Many of the magazine subscribers have not only enjoyed the free Super Membership we offered, but have renewed their memberships and purchased additional products from us.

Other forms of advertising that we use to market our business include homeschool magazine advertisements and articles, the use of affiliates, blogs and signature lines in emails of our representatives and satisfied customers. We also receive exposure at homeschool conventions, public speaking platforms and workshops. And, of course, there is the old-fashioned, but still very effective, word of mouth. In addition, we send out a bi-weekly eNewsletter, host on-line co-ops and maintain Yahoo email groups. Collectively, the forms of advertising we currently use have helped to increase homeschoolers’ awareness of our company and its products. It is always a joy to answer the phone and have someone tell me he or she has been homeschooling for many years and just now heard about our company.

We hope to continue our successful relationship with The Old Schoolhouse Magazine in order to offer their subscribers the opportunity to provide a fun and easy approach to hands-on learning. Our future plans include continuing to present a quality, time-saving product that will persist in helping homeschoolers focus on their educational goals as well as assist in bringing laughter and learning together in the hands of a child!

Katie Kubesh is co-owner and writer/researcher for In the Hands of a Child. Recognizing that hands-on projects are essential to the learning experience, In the Hands of a Child has created Project Packs that go beyond the hands-on aspect; we have taken the preparation time out of the parent/teacher job description with Complete Ready to Assemble Lapbook Project Packs that are available in printed book or ebook formats.
