I have a child who excels in
music, physical movement, artistic

projects, and does okay in
math, but he is a reluctant reader. We are trying
to keep our studies based in the classics, use narration
and dictation, and concentrate on unit studies.
However, he is 10 and does not
read well by himself and does not pay much attention when
being read to. He has been diagnosed with ADHD and has other
learning challenges, but he has a good mind and a great
imagination. He had been in public and private school
through 2nd grade with an IEP and a tutor and can read,
although very slowly with minimal comprehension.
Reading for him is excruciating
because it is a ton of work with very little reward. I
have tried remediation of reading through phonics, but he was
very resistant to this. Does anyone have a similar learner in
their home, and what has worked?
Thank you,
Laura, a
