HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
May 12th, 2007
Do you remember the first day you began homeschooling? Or perhaps the first time you considered the idea? For some of you it was only yesterday and for others, veterans in the field, the memory is a distant but still attainable blur.

Today, you have the chance to help a future homeschool mom as she faces the same questions and concerns you once faced. She worries about the monetary cost and physical strain of homeschooling, but she knows the rewards will be momentous.

How can she convince her family this is the Lord's will for them? How will she stay in budget while choosing the right curriculum? This is your chance to encourage and advise a young homeschooling mom to be.

The Cost of Homeschooling

Hi, Homeschool Moms,

I am not a homeschooling mother just yet, but I feel the Lord directing me in
this path. My husband is not so sure at this time so I have been e-mailing him
encouraging things at his work that have been sent to me, and of course, I am still
praying for him. I just cannot do it without his full consent. I want my children
to learn obedience through me which is sometimes very hard.

I am very overwhelmed at all of the information and things that you can buy. It feels as if you can just spend, spend, spend. Everything looks so wonderful to teach, and I would love to get my hands on quite a few things, but it just is not in our budget. I do realize
though, if we did not send our children to school, we would save around $1150 for
just the hot lunch program in a year, not to mention the school supplies.

Well, I am also wondering about a trial basis: homeschooling during the summer. Just
one month to show my husband that it might work.

My story is as follows: we just moved to the country into a farm house--which is of the Lord's hand. We have a 10yr., 7yr., 6yr., 4yr., 2yr., and 9mo. My husband is concerned for me teaching all of our children. I am not organized (though I try), I did not do well in school (I really did not like school), and I am just tired most of the time.

I know the Lord has changed my heart on homeschooling, I am not afraid of it as I once was, and I really do enjoy my children staying at home; whereas, I could not wait for them to be gone for most of the day before. So now I am waiting on the Lord to change my husbands heart.

Can we afford to homeschool when it seems like it can really cost? And can I find some curriculum to use for a month as a trial during the summer? I have heard of so many choices, as I have mentioned; I feel overwhelmed in the cost and variety of methods and curriculum. I do know I need to do something right away before school
begins in the fall. I look forward to all of your e-mails and encouragement even
though I do not homeschool yet. You have given me hope.

Thank you,

Mashell, Lord willing a soon-to-be homeschool mom
