Children are natural born learners. However, even when
they show readiness for the next step mentally, sometimes they
just aren't ready emotionally and meltdowns ensue.
Molly's little boy can read a little and do
simple math. What Molly needs to know is if his
negative behavior towards school is because he isn't quite
ready or if she needs to be dealing with a bad
attitude.

Late Bloomer or Attitude
Trouble?
|
| Hey, my name
is Molly. I love TOS!
I was just
reading the e-mail newsletter about Better Late Than
Early. How
do you know the difference between genuine frustration/bad
attitudes and readiness?
My son, just turned six
years old and gets very upset when it's time for
school. We are doing Teach Your Child to Read in
100 Easy Lessons. He
can read. He just begins crying and saying, "I hate
school."
The same with his math. He can do
that too, but he gets very frustrated when he doesn't
understand something.
My 8 year old
daughter pretty much taught herself to read and she doesn't
even need me for her math, I just check her answers. Any
insight?
