Last week Minute to Minute received a very special request from Donnann, a mom ambitious to begin homeschooling, who has one particular question that no one seems able to answer. That's why we're calling on you to help and encourage her as she seeks the best for her daughter. She wants to know if there are NCAA Scholarships for Homeschoolers.

She fears homeschooling could hinder her daughter's future college prospects, but she feels called by God to homeschool. Perhaps you've faced this issue with your children or know something about NCAA Scholarships. Please read her letter and help us help Donnann.

Sports Scholarships for Homeschoolers?
Dear Homeschool Moms,

I have been researching homeschooling for three years, and now we are ready to begin. I have one major concern/fear, and I don't believe I have ever seen anyone address my problem. I want to know if homeschooled athletes can get college scholarships.

My daugher is a soccer player. She is not your average player. She is on one of the best club teams in the country for her age group, and she is only 11. She is dedicated, and just an exceptional athlete. This is not something that a homeschool team can help me with. My fear is that we homeschool her through graduation, and then she can't get her scholarship to an NCAA Division 1 school because she has no diploma. College coaches go to tournaments on a regular basis, and we have already been approached by three. I just need to know if homeschooled athletes can get scholarships to Division 1 schools. The one's she would be on track for are North Carolina, Texas A&M, Notre Dame...those kind. Her grades are no problem, but I'm just not sure if sports scholarships are offered to homeschooled children.

History of SportsSome of your favorite sports may have been around for thousands of years, and some may not have been around for very long at all. Who were the first people to play basketball, and why is soccer called football in other countries? Learn the history of football, baseball, basketball, and soccer in The History of Sports Project Pack  from In the Hands of a Child. This 56-page project pack includes an 11-page research guide and 21 hands-on activities to complete about the history of these four sports. Now you can bring the joy of sports from the playing field into the classroom.

We hope you can help Donnann in her quest for information on NCAA Scholarships. If you would like to advise or encourage her, please email us with your response. When you email us you give us permission to post your response in the Minute to Minute e-newsletter, send your response to the Donnann, and use it in The Old Schoolhouse Magazine's My Voice column if selected.

Sincerely,
Nancy Carter, The Homeschool Minute Editor
