Black Friday Sale

"I always look forward to your newsletters because I'm always so blessed by the encouragement and, well, just the overall good advice you all give ... but this last issue was ESPECIALLY encouraging.

You all seem so grounded and calm, so it was great to get good advice about managing work and school better. But the most positive part of your writing is that you never say anything is "how it should be done." This newsletter was especially strong on that point, but all of your newsletters give that same message, now that I think about it. You just keep hammering away at us, letting us know that it's OK to be individuals  and to do what we have to do the best we can in the Grace of the Lord, and not to compare ourselves to anyone else.

I doubt that you all realize how unique you are within the homeschooling community, but I sure pray that you continue and that God blesses you for it!

"I just signed up for your newsletter and WOW! did it hit home.  This is my first year home with my two boys, ages 5 and 2.

We knew it would be tough going to one salary, but it seems to be hitting especially hard with the holidays approaching.

Your newsletter really lifted me up and reminded me of what is important. We have accepted that Christmas won't be a huge production this year, but the rewards of being home together far outweigh toys that will gather dust within weeks."

Minute to Minute

"I just read The Homeschool Minute and I just have to thank you for being so strong biblically (I've noticed this in your magazine and your emails).  It seems in this day, that that is becoming so rare.

So, I wanted to thank you for encouraging me and countless others and to encourage you to keep on being so biblically strong!  I pray that the Lord will bless your work abundantly."

Nancy Carter PictureWe're keeping this week's Homeschool Minute short and sweet because frankly, we know most of you are probably really, really, incredibly busy.

Whether you're baking and cooking, washing the clothes so you can pack for travel, or just trying to cram in one more Thanksgiving activity with the kids, just know that we're thankful for you.

The Homeschool Minute started just a little over a year ago and you all have truly blessed us with your words of encouragement, suggestions, and prayers.

May you all have a blessed Thanksgiving with your friends and family.

Enjoy every minute!

Deborah Wuehler, TOS Senior Editor

As we scurry about the house and the kitchen, not to mention the last minute trips to the grocery store, let us make an extra effort to turn our focus on the One to whom this holiday belongs. God is Jehovah Jireh, the God Who Provides.

When you are reaching for the cranberry sauce on the store shelf, whisper your praise to Him who richly gives us all things to enjoy. When basting your turkey or ham, remember the One who pays just as much close attention to the details of your life as you are doing for this one meal.

Jesus ever lives to intercede and pray for and bring us before His Father - may we ever live to thank Him and glorify Him and lift Him up - this Thanksgiving especially. I guarantee that it will be different from the norm if you do.

Feeling far from thankful? Here's a devotion that you just may want to use in your celebration to give it more meaning than just turkeys and apple pies.

A Glorious Thanksgiving to all of you from all of us on The Homeschool Minute team.

~Deborah

PS - I know I said it last week, but I want to say again, we are so very thankful for all of you. Thank you for standing with us and encouraging us and for doing all you do in your own homeschool circles. May the LORD be glorified in all that we do.

"O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him." Psalm 34:8

Thankfulness. I remember when teachers tried to teach this directly, or academically. "We'll go around the circle and each of you tell us something you are thankful for." So I tried to think what answer the teacher might expect and approve of. And what would my classmates think? Someone else would probably say parents or family or Sunday school, so I couldn't use those. Ice cream flitted across my mind, but I knew that was not serious enough. My mind worked hard, but not on the real question of what I am thankful for.

So if direct teaching is not ideal, then what is? Will children "catch" thankfulness from us? Not likely, unless we put out some effort. I call it immersion learning. Immerse children in a thankful atmosphere and they will catch some of it. So speak up once in a while.

"I'm so thankful Daddy knows how to fix the car."

"I thank God that He healed Ellie's sickness."

"Boy am I thankful somebody invented ice cream."

I love Thanksgiving.  It is my favorite holiday. Why? Because it is a time to focus on thankfulness! Somehow it has managed to avoid the commercialism of Christmas. It is about family, food and thanking God for the blessings He has bestowed upon us! That is my kind of holiday!

Here are some Freebies for you to enjoy with your family tomorrow.

Here are some Discussion Topics for Thanksgiving .These will get your family talking around the dinner table and remembering what they have to be thankful for.

Writing Activities for Thanksgiving cover topics from serious to silly! There are a lot of great ideas to chose from.

Want to include a little history at your Thanksgiving table?  How about reading The First Thanksgiving Proclamation before you eat your turkey?

Learn how to make a couple of simple toys like the children may have played with at the first Thanksgiving and listen to some examples of English words, greetings and phrases that might have been used back then.

I pray you have a wonderful Thanksgiving full of blessings and gratefulness!

...Solemnly and seriously to keep the same Beseeching that being perswaded by the mercies of God we may all, even this whole people offer up our bodies and soulds as a living and acceptable Service unto God by Jesus Christ.
