After 11 years of grinding, the lens for the Hale telescope was completed in 1947.
You can see hundreds of images of space taken by telescopes by visiting NASA's "astronomy picture of the day." The picture shown will be today's picture, but by clicking on the word "archive," located in the bottom left below the picture, you can access hundreds more images!

David Kunst returned to Minnesota after walking all the way around the world.
His 14,500-mile journey was made up of hundreds of thousand of steps. Can you estimate how many? Use this event as a base for math activities with these math activity ideas. 

October 7th 
Henry Ford's factory began using a moving assembly line in 1913, cutting production time in half.

See how an assembly line works by having an assembly line lunch today. Sandwiches work great for this; however, many things could be prepared this way. How about an ice cream sundae with multiple toppings! Point out the power of cooperation utilized in assembly lines.

William the Conqueror became king of England when he defeated Harold II at the Battle of Hastings on this day in 1066.
