The longer we homeschool, the more we are convinced that the drilling of math facts is of utmost importance. A child who does not have his multiplication tables memorized so that he can recall his facts within a few seconds' time will struggle as harder math concepts, such as long division, are introduced.
Multiplication 1 Drill Book, Facts 0-81 by Edupress is a solid basic facts drill book. No frills here, but the book does contain two multiplication charts in the front that can be used as a reference for the child just beginning to learn his multiplication facts.
Several approaches to drilling facts are utilized: skip counting by 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s, as well as completing multiplication patterns (1 x 1, 2 x 1, 3 x 1, etc.) and grouping dots. Each of these simple exercises further reinforces multiplication facts and can be the key to understanding multiplication concepts for some children.
The book is reproducible for classroom use, which means that you can purchase one for your family and make copies for each child as necessary. Any non-consumable/one-time-purchase is welcome curriculum in our home of many children.
