Grady the Goose is a beautifully illustrated hardback storybook. It is the story of a young goose named Grady who learns a very important lesson--that it is important to "stick together." While reading this book, we too learned the importance of family and togetherness, along with some interesting facts about Canadian Geese. The book ends with a note from the author, explaining some of the habits of Canadian Geese in more detail and containing a small "words to know" section of Goose-related terms and their meanings. (These words are used throughout the book.)
This is not a "homeschool book" per se. It is, however, a picture book appropriate for any home and family. I'm sure the author's target audience is young children, but this is definitely one of those books for the whole family to enjoy together.
One thing that I found very helpful is the fact that Sleeping Bear Press has teacher resources available on its website. I clicked on the link for Grady the Goose and downloaded the Teacher Resources. (You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer.) There are 20 pages of worksheets available. Some pages cover such things as vocabulary and math. Others have fun activities such as crosswords and word searches. There are even ideas for further research.
I would definitely recommend this book. The price is very comparable to other books of its kind. With the availability of the downloadable worksheets, it's definitely well worth the price.
