Character Education: From Inner Peace to World Peace is a "Learn as You Sing with Miss Jenny and Friends" product. The CD has 28 songs, each one dealing with a different area of character development. Each song has a corresponding lyrics page as well as a workbook page that focuses on that specific character trait.
Character Education is written for children in grades 1-3 but is adaptable for grades K-6. Though it was created for a classroom setting and is aligned with most state educational standards, it can just as easily be used in a homeschool setting with just one child. All children need to learn basic character skills. This program covers self-esteem, compassion, honesty, respect, fairness, and many more traits. This book is not written as a Christian program, but I found nothing offensive in it. I believe it could easily be adapted to tie in with Biblical principles.
My 6-year-old daughter has enjoyed this program so far. The songs have catchy tunes, and although some of them have a lot of words, it is easy to keep up because the lyrics are printed in the workbook. The messages in the songs are things we all need to hear. I know my 13-year-old will benefit from listening to them, and so will I. At $19.99, this program is affordable and worth the money.
