A Christian girl loses her provider when Muslim radicals kill her father, yet she still serves Christ in her homeland, Nigeria. A six-year-old orphan boy, starving in North Korea, flees with his sister to a safehouse in China where he hears the Good News of salvation. A secret children's church, led by a sixteen year-old, trains youth to stand as bold believers in Islamic Iran. Yes, Christians are being persecuted today, and yet many of our children are spiritually lackadaisical, taking lightly the religious freedoms God has ordained for them. How exciting, then, to discover The Voice of the Martyrs: Kids of Courage Newsletter. This free, eight-page, quarterly newsletter for K-8th graders offers children an opportunity to read riveting stories about faith lived out, learn geographic details about featured regions, try cultural recipes, see God at work worldwide, and learn practical ways to pray for and serve believers across the globe. By logging onto The Voice of the Martyrs website, you can easily find the Kids of Courage link. In less than a minute, you can sign-up for this free resource and be on the way to opening your children's eyes to the realities of Christian life in spiritually oppressed nations. While on the website, be sure to browse further and discover supplemental information and a free adult newsletter about martyred believers and today's heroes of the faith.
Additionally, for only $10.00, The Voice of the Martyrs publishes a spiral-bound activity book called Bold Believers, which is available every three months. Designed to supplement the quarterlies, Bold Believers corresponds to the featured region in Kids of Courage. Ideal for a unit study at home or for sparking mission-mindedness in groups of children, these notebooks provide hands-on activities that will get children talking about and praying for the persecuted church. Stories, songs, recipes, reproducible crossword puzzles, Scripture passages, timelines, and prayer calendars make learning fun while cementing important information in the minds and hearts of kids.
Since beginning our subscription to Kids of Courage, our family has begun to pray regularly for Christians in North Korea. We've learned about an imprisoned Romanian husband and wife who, despite threats, boldly proclaimed their faith and began the organization that is today known as The Voice of the Martyrs. We've gleaned information about Mary Slessor's 19th-century work in Nigeria and the continued need for the Good News in this nation. Our kids have plans to raise money for Bibles. We eat dinner on crayola-colored flags of Iran, reminding us to pray for the believers there. But most importantly, thanks to the efforts of The Voice of the Martyrs, our children are recognizing, like never before, their responsibility to be bold believers who sacrificially live out their faith.
