This book has "All the Spelling and Phonics Rules You Could Ever Want to Know." It includes Encoder rules (spelling) and Decoder rules (phonics). The Appendices include spelling and phonics games and an exhaustive list of homophones. The Handy English Encoder Decoder can be used as a stand-alone reference book or in conjunction with your spelling and phonics instruction. A dictionary and a desire to learn proper skills are the only additional things you will need.

Written by homeschoolers for homeschoolers, this is another excellent item from the Bluedorns. The book discusses vowels, consonants, suffix use, various word endings, plurals, capitalization, syllable division, and more!

I am very impressed with this book. The information is extensive and very well organized. Students may not be too impressed with the information at first glance, but if there are certain words that consistently "stump" them in spelling, they will quickly see the book's value. I showed my daughter how she could use the Encoder Decoder to solve some of her spelling difficulties, and she now keeps it alongside her dictionary for regular use.

I love this book. I am looking forward to using it as I teach phonics rules to my younger children in the future. And it is an invaluable reference tool for older students. I expect that this handy volume will prove to be useful to everyone in our home, even those of us no longer school-aged.
