Just when I thought there couldn't be another unique book on homeschooling, Marilyn Rockett proved me wrong. Homeschooling at the Speed of Life looks at the overall life of the homeschooling family (the "big-picture" view) while also breaking it down into sections. What makes Homeschooling at the Speed of Life unique is the "key"--being organized. It's tough to homeschool when everything is, as my 6 year old would say it, 'askew'.

This quote sums it up: "Organization is making your life work for you by bringing the dailiness of life under control through yielding to the Holy Spirit concerning the wise use of your time." This book is not offering a 'one size fits all' plan. I've read plenty of those books, and let me tell you, what works for the homeschooling family down the road is not necessarily going to work for the Barthuly tribe. Marilyn offers wise direction and tools. It is up to the reader to glean from Marilyn's experience and use those tools to create what works for his or her family. Homeschooling at the Speed of Life is a nice 8½" x 11" paperback of over 175 pages. Marilyn's fully customizable "File-a-Plan" organizing system is included on CD in the back of the book.

I love this statement by Marilyn: "A perfect home is not and should not be the goal. Rather, our calling is to a God honoring home." Amen!

We don't need more books on how to perfectly organize your home according to the author who doesn't live there. We need prayer and an understanding of what works and what doesn't work for our own families. Marilyn's book is hopeful, helpful, and humorous. A great read and a great help for this homeschooling mom.
