Joy Writing: Discover and Develop Your Creative Voice

This is a very practical book on creative writing. Kenn keeps the reader interested and amused while making his points. There is much here that can be used in teaching children how to write as well. In the very first chapter he talks about the biggest stumbling block to new writers--a tendency to want it to be perfect the first time through. When it's not, discouragement sets in and it's easy to give up. The information he gives to combat this common problem is nearly worth the cost of the entire book by itself.

The rest of the book is also filled with such wonderful advice and breaks down the process of writing into steps that are much more easily understood. This is a how-to book of writing. You can't write the Great American Novel without ever having written anything beyond a book report.

The entire book is 130 pages, not an overwhelming amount, and the reading is fairly easy, though I would suggest the optimal reader will be in high school or an adult because of the level of comprehension needed. This is a very informative and interesting book that will motivate you to start typing away with joy.
