Jim Weiss is a gifted storyteller who does a fantastic job of bringing the characters of Dr. Watson, Sherlock Holmes, and a variety of "bad guys" to life for children and adults alike. This is one CD you won't have to force yourself to sit through with your children. While my children were fully able to understand and enjoy these classic stories, I was enthralled as well.

Mr. Weiss is impressive in his ability to convey excitement and intrigue through his voice. Amazingly, he is able to adopt a different voice for each character in the story and can manage to keep them all straight! Listening to him read is truly a delight.

This particular CD from Greathall Productions includes four Sherlock Holmes stories and runs approximately one hour. In "The Mazarin Stone," thieves are foiled as Holmes recovers a valuable Crown diamond. In "The Adventure of the Speckled Band," the life of a young girl is saved as Holmes discovers a plot involving a poisonous snake. A missing man is found as "The Musgrave Ritual" is unraveled, and Holmes discovers how a precious stone ended up inside a goose in "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle."

While these stories are expertly read, highly entertaining, and easily understood by children, I will offer a word of caution. These stories do involve adult themes such as murder, thievery, guns, and the like. If you have sensitive children or prefer to avoid such subjects I would suggest one of Greathall's other CDs.
