The Algebra Survival Guide and Workbook is just as it says, a survival guide! This book gives one concept of algebra on each page, not pages and pages of the same thing. At the bottom of each page are 3-8 sample problems to be done, and then the student goes to the workbook to work some practice problems. There are never more than 20 problems to be done at one time in the workbook.
I don't know where the illustrator got ideas for the design of this book, but I told my husband and daughter that the picture on the front of this book looked just like I did when I first started learning how to do algebra in college. I wanted to jump into a hole and hide! But the way this particular book is structured ("one concept per page") is fantastic! Even with my limited algebra education, I could work almost any of the problems in the sections just by reading the instructions. This is a great educational tool for a middle or high schooler or for anyone doing a refresher course or working on a GED.
I have recommended this book to dozens of people I know. It's great for home educators, public schools, secondary schools, and alternative schools. It is well worth the cost to have something so efficient at teaching algebra concepts.
