The 7 Hardest Things God Asks a Woman to Do is a devotional book written by a mother and her adult daughter. It was born from a women's Bible study the authors led together at their church. Each chapter in the book focuses on one of seven aspects of Christianity with which women, in particular, often struggle.
Why do we often struggle with certain areas in our Christian walk? Take a look at the title of a few of the chapters. You'll see how the authors have developed the book on opposites that often seem like stumbling blocks to us. In chapter one, we are told God wants us to Single-focus and Multi-task. In chapter two, we are to Be Tolerant, yet Intolerant. And in chapter three we are to Fail and Succeed.
All seven chapters take a look at seemingly opposite things the Lord calls us to. In each chapter, the authors use many Bible references to show how we are called to do both things and real-life examples to explain how each can fit into our lives. For example, in chapter two the author explains that we are to be tolerant of people who aren't like us and circumstances we cannot change. On the other hand, we are to be intolerant of things like gossip, selfishness, and fear.
At the end of each chapter, there are several study questions that either lead you to the Bible or ask you to examine yourself in light of the topic presented. There are also extra Bible references listed so that you can continue to study the topic if you like.
The book is not written directly to homeschoolers, or even mothers. It is meant for women of any age. The authors take turns in writing the chapters, so the writing style changes a bit from chapter to chapter. I have to be honest; I found the writing styles to be a bit dry. There was such an abundance of stories and examples with each and every point that I found myself wishing the authors would get to the point a little faster.
I feel that the material covered is important for women to understand, and I didn't find anything objectionable. It's obvious the authors spent much time in study and preparation to create such an in-depth look at each topic. I do recommend it as a devotional, but I can't claim it is one of the best I've ever read.
