Staying Healthy - Be Happy, Fit and Safe Student Practice Book Grade 2

Learning how to develop a healthy lifestyle and basic safety rules are very important for young children. Most of us have chosen curriculum for this, but a workbook such as Be Happy, Fit and Safe was designed as a fun way to keep these important concepts fresh in the minds of our children. It also encourages the development of skills in other subjects such as math, science, and language arts as well! This is a colorful 48 page workbook full of activities based on health and safety. Containing five units, the study begins with "Your Growing Body."

This unit covers body systems, growing bigger and stronger, the food pyramid and eating right. Unit 2 is about getting fit, keeping our body clean and healthful habits, while Unit 3 is all about your senses. In Unit 4, staying safe and when to call for help is the priority. Unit 5 is a life skills section in which children discuss respecting family members and themselves. They also learn techniques for dealing with bullies. Each topic has only a page or two with one activity, but there are some really neat extras, such as the American Sign Language Alphabet, and the Braille Alphabet. This may be just a "workbook" but it really is packed full of great information, activities, puzzles and experiments. My second grader enjoyed it and I think it would be a great addition to any health curriculum.
