I think that out of all the curricula sent to The Old Schoolhouseâ„¢ Magazine for review thus far, Digital Learning Network has grabbed the gold ring for "taking it all the way." A popular company well known in the homeschool community, one can find DLN in most homeschool magazines and on the web. Bob Jones University Press is an exceptional educational company. Everyone knows who they are and it's obvious why they are so successful. They have something for everyone. One special aspect of Bob Jones University is their HomeSat department. Conveniently, there are classes homeschoolers can "attend" via satellite - you can actually complete entire classes by watching TV! This is great, but what about the homeschool family who has a hard time with keeping the TV program schedule? Many families have a lot of children (babies, too!) and it's not so easy to be "scheduled" all the time. Here is where Digital Learning Network comes in. They have put the satellite classrooms on video, binding the whole program together, complete with the proper corresponding textbooks and/or workbooks, plus teacher's manuals and other class aids. No, this is not a classroom full of noisy kids and a struggling teacher being taped. You have your own video teacher in a quiet room teaching your children. It's peaceful, professional, organized, and wonderful! The amount of videos you receive per class subject is staggering. You can complete the class at your own pace - some children may zip through it in a semester, others may need a full year, and there are those that will take a bit longer. That's the beauty of homeschooling. You can customize your classes for your children at their (and your) pace.

DLN is sure of their product, and we can see why. They had no qualms about sending us a large number of full-year video courses. UPS brought in box after box after box! Our children gathered 'round with excitement as we browsed through this goldmine of education! Spanish I (which included a brand new Spanish Bible!), Math 4, Math 6, English 4, English 6 and Life Science for seventh graders. Included were the video classrooms (tons of tapes per subject!), textbooks, workbooks, and teacher's editions. For busy homeschool families, and even just homeschoolers who wish to move at their own schedules, DLN's video school is the way to go. The classrooms are not boring or everlasting in the least. It's not just a teacher standing up there the entire time, lecturing away. Many enriching components to any given class are present, which keeps it interesting and flowing smoothly. We love it, and would highly recommend Digital Learning Network to any family. In fact, perhaps "first time homeschoolers" (parents just making the decision to pull their children from school) would surely benefit greatly by starting out with DLN. If you follow the instructions, sit back, relax, and enjoy learning, I would say there is about a zero percent chance for failure! Check out their website or call for an information package to find out more (870-933-7283). They offer an enormous number of subjects from which to choose. A+ all the way for Digital Learning Network!

Here's another Digital Learning Network review!

I am absolutely in love with Bob Jones Video School (Digital Learning Network)! Where do I even begin? I was very skeptical when I first heard of "video school." After all, being the control freak that I am, the thought of letting some other entity teach my child was bothersome - offensive even! Wasn't that why I decided to homeschool in the first place? This theory served me well until the day came when it took me longer to learn my child's lesson than it did to teach it. Moreover, in subjects such as science, it was becoming impossible for me to conduct the variety of experiments necessary to cement scientific concepts in my child. Despite my "wanting" to, my daughter was not getting the best science education that she could.

When I got the opportunity to review the Bob Jones Life Science for Christian Schools Video Classroom, which is made available by Digital Learning Network, I knew that if there was any subject that I needed help teaching, it would be this one. However, I was still feeling a little put-off / guilty about not being the "primary" teacher. Any hesitancy that I had, though, was dispelled in an instant. One of the great things about this program was the "video teacher," who constantly reminded my child that the parent was the authority, and that she (the teacher) was not the coach, but the team captain. For me, that was important, because I AM on an "authority trip," and I don't want my role to be in question. That may seem silly, but I really did appreciate her attitude in this.

The videos are so interesting and filled with colorful backdrops. My daughter loved watching the experiments that were conducted, and after each half-hour segment, we both felt like real learning was taking place. That was exciting for both of us. The beginning of each segment starts with "Teacher's Tips." This was wonderful, because the video teacher took a few minutes to give me, the parent, the basic idea of the material being covered, as well as any information pertinent to my child's lesson for that day. Each lesson was completely God-centered. Bob Jones Life Science teaches that science and Christianity go hand in hand. After all, God is the Author of science. Since I am a Christian homeschooler, this was essential to me. I am sold on Bob Jones Life Science Video School. I know that I will continue to use it for all of my children's science classes, and more than likely use the Bob Jones Math videos as my older children advance in this hard-to-teach subject. The program is so wonderfully complete and well presented. It comes with a teacher's edition textbook and workbook, student textbook and workbook, test pages and teacher's answer key, and a Teacher's Tips resource book. I HIGHLY recommend this program. My daughter absolutely loves it, too!

Bob Jones University Press Spanish (Digital Learning Network)

Bob Jones University is absolutely, the hands-down best resource I have found for video school. Their programs are so complete, are easy to navigate, produce real results, and, most importantly, are God-centered through and through.

After the amazing results we had with the Science HomeSat video class for our junior high daughter, our family is now convinced that the entire HomeSat Video classroom programs from Digital Learning Network (for all four of our school-aged students) would be the best fit for our family's educational needs. We are presently excited about the Spanish program for one of our summer learning classes. When we received the Spanish program, we were incredibly delighted with all it included - the teacher resources are so complete, easy to understand, and well rounded - and not at all overwhelming or condescending.

The Spanish Bible that came with it reinforced the focus and reasons for wanting to learn Spanish in the first place. The student resources, videos, activities, worksheets, and tests are put together in a way that is easy for the student to set themselves up with and take part in the responsibility of their education. We were impressed with the package as a whole. Our family is excited to go through the HomeSat Spanish Digital classrooms together, with the hopes of impacting the larger world around us. We are once again happy with another great find from Digital Learning Network! We are so thankful for the truly beneficial, Christ-centered material they provide, and seem to always receive more than we expect!
