This book is just what I have been looking for! A very fun, easy read for any age on just what is out there right now in terms of jobs concerning parks, recreation, and animals. Sondra does a great job describing the options and it sounds like she had a blast doing it. The best part was that Sondra wrote this book at 13 years of age and had it published!

Sondra was lucky enough to travel with her parents for 12 months around the United States. While traveling she had the great opportunity to job shadow many folks working in the field of Parks and Recreation. Some jobs are obvious, others obscure, but all seem interesting. If you have a child like mine, who is obsesses with all things Animalia, you should read this book with her; it is very enlightening.

From learning what a zookeeper really does, to a Grand Canyon river guide, or a puppeteer for that matter, she has interviews with all of them. Sondra has asked them all questions about their jobs, what they love, how they got there, what schooling they needed, what advice they had for other young people and what motivated them personally. Cool Careers is an exceptionally good read and a great overview for all young people deciding their futures. Highly recommended!
