The book Beyond Beautiful Girlhood Plus Companion Guide is an expansion and revision of the original book Winsome Womanhood written by Margaret E. Sangster in 1900. This book Beyond Beautiful Girlhood Plus Companion Guide covers the first section of the original book geared toward mothers and their daughters aged fifteen to twenty years old. The title of the book accurately reminds you, this delicate time in life is a beginning as well as an ending.
The book is designed for seven weeks of study for both mother and daughter together. There are five sections: mother-to-mother, offers goals and encouragement; mother journal and daughter journal questions, helps dialogue; unique but similar Bible studies for mother and daughter; projects, enrichments ideas that help put into action all that is being learned; and resources, other reading materials and reproducible forms.
The book would also be a wonderful resource for a church, family or small group to share. It could also be used in a homeschool co-op setting for moms and daughters. I can see young women being changed by the time spent with the Word, their moms and other young women. Moreover, the moms will be transformed by their desire to be a model of what it means to be a Christian woman.
Although my daughter is a few years from us being able to share this treasure, I actually found myself looking forward to her being a teenager. I'm so thankful I was given the opportunity to read this now so God can prepare my heart for the changes He has in store for the relationship with my "little girl." Reading this book gave me a vision for the future and put into words the desires for my daughter. The wisdom and simplicity of the ideas continuously point to our position as daughters of the King.
The language of Beyond Beautiful Girlhood Plus Companion Guide is so rich and full. The thoughts, despite their age, are absolutely timeless. The fluidness of the words rolls through your mind, cascades to your heart, and implores you to act. With that said, I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
