http://www.spellingpower.com/My family and I have found Spelling Power to be a refreshing alternative to the tedious rote memorization of other spelling programs on the market today. From the "Quick Start Introduction" to the informational chapters, author Beverly L. Adams-Gordon has created a spelling program that parents and students will enjoy using. Spelling Power is easy to understand and implement. My children love the fact that in just 15 minutes they are DONE with spelling for the day. We like the fact that they only have to study words that they misspelled, not words that they can spell already. The book comes with helpful forms that can be copied, or you can purchase a Spelling Power test book to use for testing and word study. Three helpful chapters in Spelling Power are Miscellaneous, Dictionary Skills and Discovery Activities. In the Miscellaneous Section are two handy lists called "homonyms and other often confused words" and "commonly misspelled words". I laminated these pages and keep them handy for quick reference. The dictionary chapter has been helpful to me by giving guidelines for teaching how to use the dictionary and alphabetical sequencing. Discovery Activities are skill-building activities to be used during misspelled word study time. Because the program is designed for ages 8 through adult, one book is all you will need from elementary to high school. I appreciate the value I get for my money in this feature. We remedied the only drawback to Spelling Power by cutting off the stiff binding and inserting the pages in a 3-ring binder, making copying forms easy.
