Authentic Beauty

By Leslie Ludy

I have just read a book I wish someone had given me when I was a young woman. I was disillusioned with youth group, yet had seen enough of the effects of secular dating to realize there was no pot of gold at the end of that rainbow either. Authentic Beauty by Leslie Ludy is an inspirational book that gives young women a vision for making Jesus their prince, putting Him and their relationship with Him first. She talks about her own struggles with being attracted to worldliness and how she ultimately made God her King and sought through His power and grace to “lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily entangles.” She addresses the pitfalls that young ladiesfall prey to, such as dressing immodestly, materialism and gossip. In this book, she calls young ladies to develop a set apart life that is free from sin and fit for the Master’s use. I found it’s message of prayer and onsecration applicable to my own life, although since it contains some rather graphic anecdotes of the dangers of dating, I would hesitate to hand this book to a daughter who had kept her thought life pure. For the rest of us who at some point have strayed from the path, it is an encouraging call to live a life that glorifies the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
