Kids' Ten Commandments, The Review by The Igarashi Family

Set of 5 DVDs
Tyndale House

Tyndale House has become a trusted name for putting out high quality materials, and Tyndale House's Kids' Ten Commandments DVD's have become a favorite in our household.

This is an impressive set of five disks that cover the Ten Commandments in story-format with a fanciful cast both of animals and people. The animated fiction stories are set in the wilderness during the time of Moses as he was leading the Israelites to the Promise Land.

Each episode addresses, in a manner that even young children can comprehend and enjoy, two of the Ten Commandments, and a story is woven around lessons about the relevance of the Law and the consequences of what happened when they were broken. Each story involves the main character, Seth, a boy who tries his hardest, but struggles as he strives to honor God's commandments. The animals that Seth cares for have their own personalities--and discussions-- and relate the events of the story from their perspective. Both story lines involving Seth and his animal friends are engaging and accomplish conveying the importance of obeying the Lord, God.

The animation on these Tyndale House DVD's is top-notch: very quality and professionally done. I simply cannot say enough good things about it. This series entertains our family for hours. Even our four-year-old will sit down and watch all five - a truly amazing achievement. A natural progression to spending time viewing the films is the resulting conversation with your children; this is the best part of all. They will have questions or enjoy dialoguing with you about the deep subject matter, which has been made understandable and adventurous just for them.

For a fun animated adventure that entertains as well as communicates biblical tenants and moral values, this is a first choice for our family.

There is also a very comprehensive 200-page, spiral-bound Family Fun Pack that can be purchased with this DVD set, which seemed to be created specifically with homeschoolers in mind. It is put together beautifully and includes devotionals, object lessons, games, activities, contemporary stories, bible readings, follow-up questions, crafts, record-keeping journals, worksheets and activities, plus sidebars, which include helpful tips, quotes, interesting facts, and lists of resources. It even comes with a certificate of completion! This was a very well thought-out guide and will do well to keep the entire family engaged!
