The Old Schoolhouseâ„¢ Magazine reviews a lot of software. It comes in regularly from all sorts of companies. Much of it is very good. Others are difficult to install or seem second rate. Not Compedia USA! First, we were impressed that they sent SO MUCH. I wish we had time/space to list our thoughts on each learning game, but we have provided something below that reflects their work. This company is dedicated to learning. They have been around since 1988, providing enriching learning games for families. In addition, what I found interesting is that they have developed a huge number of titles, which are available in over TWENTY languages! They have won awards on a worldwide level and many schools use their programs. My 12-year-old son was able to easily install any of their disks, and because he sees SO much software (he is the one who reviews a good portion of what educational software learning games come in), he's pretty picky. Compedia has probably been his favorite thus far. The programs are colorful, easy to understand and implement, and downright FUN. He enjoyed setting his five-year-old sister up for enjoyment on the computer. They had such a good time with everything! We really love Compedia USA! By the way, would you like to try out two of their games online? Click HERE to start the fun!
Invention Highway by Compedia
Critical thinking skills - we all want our kids to have them. They can do exercises in a workbook, or they can try something new! Invention Highway is a CD that engages the child in solving problems by the application of a problem-solving grid called Advanced Systematic Inventive Thinking (ASIT).
The CD begins with a somewhat lengthy introduction to the game and the method. This must be viewed and understood if the child is to proceed. After completing the introduction, the child moves to choose one of 12 simulation games. For example, in one scenario an astronaut had landed on Mars and located a creature of some sort. The task was to determine how to measure the creature's body temperature. Several items were presented to use to solve the task. A cartoon professor stood by to encourage the child in the problem solving exercise.
My 11-year-old daughter really loved this! She loves logic puzzles and games. If you have a child who enjoys a logic or reasoning challenge, this CD would be a fun addition to your learning program.
