As I was reading through the blogs at
HomesteadBlogger the other day, I
ran across a blog looking for information
written by Christian homesteaders. Laura
at www.HomesteadBlogger.com/gokings13
said, “I did a Google search for
something—ANYTHING—in print that
has deep Biblical roots in homesteading. I
can’t find it!! There are a few magazines
out there that have great information, but
they are laden down with ‘Mother Earth
this and that.’ I don’t want to homestead
to save what was created, I want to homestead
to Honor the Creator.”
Can you relate to that? I think a growing
number of families desire to get back
to a more natural lifestyle but don’t want
to deal with all of the New Age liberal
agenda that is often a part of that movement.
People want to grow organic gardens
so that they aren’t damaging the soil
and so that they can feed their families
better, but they would prefer to do so
without weeding through articles about
worshiping Mother Earth.
Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the
Lord’s and all that is in it.” The Christian
homestead movement reflects that. We
desire to be good stewards of what God
has provided. While we strive to take
good care of our natural resources, it’s
not because we are worshiping nature;
no, it’s because it’s our way of worshiping
the Creator. Somehow thanking God
for your food before you eat takes on a
whole new meaning once you’ve actually
gotten your hands in the soil and gazed at
seeds sprouting and growing into something
that can nourish your body. Once
you’ve had your own chickens to provide
you with fresh eggs, you marvel at how
God created these animals for a purpose.
Even if you can’t raise the food or animals
yourself, simply choosing to buy foods
that were raised in a natural environment
can draw you closer to the One who created
all of it.
So come and visit us at Homestead-
Blogger if you desire to learn more about
a more natural way of living that honors
the Creator. Our Front Porch Team (www.HomesteadBlogger.com/HSBFrontPorch) is blogging about gardening,
barnyard animals, moving to the country,
earning income from your farm, living
simply and frugally, putting food by,
making your own homemade soaps and
cleaners, quilting, tips for the kitchen, living
a greener lifestyle, and so much more.
And you don’t have to check your faith at
the door. We’ll rejoice together in what
God has made and encourage each other
as we strive to live our lives pleasing to
God whether our homes are in the city or
in the country.
