Raising Leaders, Not Followers: Biblical Approach to Leadership Education
Most homeschoolers continue to offer their children the same type of education they received; they just do it at home. Parents prepare their children in a public school-grade level fashion for a future job, teaching them only "what to think". Our founding fathers received something different - a leadership education through mentoring. Leadership education trains our children "how to think" in a variety of situations. Come here Kerry Beck discuss three types of educational models, how to move from "what to think" to "how to think" in your homeschool and practical ways to implement a Biblical Leadership Education from young kids to young adults.
Raising Leaders from Childhood by Providing a Firm Foundation
From the early years of educating a child, you can determine whether or not you are raising a leader. Most kids who follow the conveyor-belt, public school model fulfill the government’s goal and become followers in life. Learn to go beyond the conveyor-belt and provide leadership training at a young age. Come away with specific ideas to prepare your children at a young age to be future leaders, to develop the love for learning in your children at a young age and to provide a firm foundation of character in your children.
How to Become a Mentor to Your Child
Go beyond the early years of training leaders and learn how to provide self-directed study for your own children. Mentoring has been the successful model to train statesmen, entrepreneurs and community leaders over the centuries. Discover clues to becoming a successful mentor to your children and to offer your children opportunities to study their own interests. Don’t be fooled by the conveyor-belt model! We all learn more when we are self-motivated to study. Use mentoring this coming year to encourage your own children to be self-motivated in their studies.
Approaches to Homeschooling
Are you stuck in a rut when it comes to choosing curriculum? Do you buy the same “stuff” each year just because you used it last year? Realize that no single approach to home schooling works for all ages and all subjects. Come hear Kerry Beck use Biblical principles for selecting the right approach for your child. We will discuss how Charlotte Mason, Classical, Unit Studies and the Principle Approach have advantages in different subjects at different stages of your child’s development.
What About College? (w/ 19yo daughter, Ashley Beck)
Is college for everyone? Do you have to spend thousands of dollars to receive a college degree? Is a college degree necessary for your life calling? Be challenged to discover if you should go to college and if so, alternative ways to get a degree quickly and cheaply. Turn real life experiences into college credit. Earn credit quickly through exams. Use an independent study plan to guarantee distance-learning success. Come hear Kerry & Ashley Beck (mom & daughter) discuss their story as Ashley completes high school studies and considers what is next.
Using the Lost Tools of Writing
Join us as we discover how to come up with ideas, order your ideas and express your ideas. We will discuss universal problems with writing, as well as ways to solve these problems. By the time you finish this workshop, you will have fresh ideas to use with your own students.
Involve Your Children in eBay & Watch Them Become Young Entrepreneurs
Looking for business that your kids can start but don’t have a lot of money to invest? Need some extra cash for an unexpected expense or trying to pay off your credit card debt? Do you already have a business but could use more customers from all over the world? Then eBay is just for you! It is one of the best ways to teach your kids business skills while you work out of the home. You can also generate investment money for business ideas and get out of debt. Kerry Beck shares her own eBay story - how she went from selling things around the house to becoming an eBay Power Seller. Learn how to start your family business from scratch and involve your children at the same time. Then, you can reap the benefits of your hard work.
